Pony Tank Selection Chart

How big should my pony be?

How long will it last at different depths?

Here are the answers you've been looking for.

The "RATE" column represents how much air an average, non-panicked diver uses at any particular depth.

The "TIME" Column represents how long it takes to surface from a particular depth assuming a conservative rate of half a foot per second.

Then below each popular size of pony tank you can see how much air time you can expect at a particular depth.

If your estimated air time is greater than the "TIME" required for a safe ascent you are in the green. If it's close, you are in the yellow. I suggest you stay in the green

!!!This is for non-decompression dives only; it calculates time to ascend directly!!! WITHOUT!!! Any safety stop.!!!

!!!This chart is based upon the "average diver" and should not be used to calculate actual usable bottom time.!!!

!!!You should never intentionally deplete your primary air source with the intention of making it back to the surface with your pony.!!!

This chart is here as a courtesy tool to help you choose a pony size and should under no circumstances be used by idiots, morons, know-it-alls, show-offs or other Darwin Awards candidates
